Bingo callers listen up: here’s the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! Do you think you’ve got what it takes to become the “National Caller of the Year 2008”? If you do, all you need to do is sign up and participate in one of the most distinguished titles that can be achieved in the bingo industry.
Last year’s competition proved to be an intense one, as callers such as Allen Musa from Buckingham Bingo in Preston, Blake Robson from Mecca Bingo in South Shields, Mark Lunn from Mecca Bingo in Wednesbury, Melanie Ceazer from Gala Bingo in Enfield, Robert Willard from the Mecca Club and James Cook from Mecca Bingo in Edinburgh, all became regional Champion Winners for 2007. Only one of them though left with the title for National Bingo Caller of the year, and this went to Blake Robson, who Works at the Mecca Bingo in Dean Road at South Shields.
“When they first announced me as the winner I was absolutely elated”, Mr Robson said when commenting about his win in 2007. “Everything seemed to happen in a blur. I barely remember recieving the trophy. Within a few hours I was being interviewed on Radio Five LIve, then the next morning I was a guest on BBC’s Breakfast programme. It wasn’t really until I walked into my club the following day and got a standing ovation that the sense of achievement in being Britain’s best bingo caller really sank in.”
Bingo callers have to go through a long process in order to make the regional finals, so if you happen to come across one of them in your local bingo club, make sure to give him or her your full moral support, as most of the time, simply just by standing by them, you can really make a difference.
